First, double check the date and the numbers on your play slip(s). It’s also a good idea to check more than one source if you missed the drawing announcement. Next, it is imperative that when you do win that you make sure that your play slip(s) is signed. If you play slip(s) are unsigned, then it means that the ticket belongs to the bearer. I cannot stress enough that you want to make sure that your ticket is signed.
It is a good idea to notify the official people as to your winning numbers. Don’t let time run out. You do not want to miss the deadline for claiming your winnings; otherwise the winnings could be rolled over. Then you are out of luck and money.
No matter what amount of money that you win, don’t rely on the mail when turning in your claim form. Always personally fill the claim form out. When you do go to claim your prize make sure that you have spoken to your financial advisor as to the best way the money should be dispersed to you. You want to be able to keep more than have to pay out.
In summary, if you win the lottery sign the ticket; keep it in a safe place; verify that you are the winner; see a financial advisor; have your ticket validated and collect your prize money.
